Positive Attitudes Really Matters

Attitude

 A positive attitude is needed.
 Attitudes are of supreme importance.
A positive attitude, a determined attitude, makes the difference between winning and losing.
You may have all the skills needed to be a winner, but still lose if you lack the determination or the charisma to win. The proper attitude can help you a winner.

a)      WHY ATTITUDES AFFECT WORK

Attitudes affect everything we do and all we try to accomplish.

1.     People can react for us or against us. The basic for this reaction is their impression of us which is formed in part by view of our attitudes.
2.     Our attitudes control our abilities.
3.     Our attitudes affect our outlook.
4.     Attitudes affect our ability to think about today.
5.     Attitudes affect our ability to accept change and new ideas.

Resistance to change is commonly justified by:

_         We tried that before.
_         It costs too much.
_         It has not been done before.
_         It is beyond our authority.
_         We are not ready for it.
_         It is not in the budget.
_         It needs more thought.
_         Management/engineers won’t go for it.
_         We have done alright without it.
_         It won’t work here.
_         Let’s sleep on it.

Such attitudes start with what cannot be done. A lot of opportunities for accomplishment are passed up this way.

6.     Cynics and perennial complainers do not believe in themselves, but only in their self-fulfilling prophesies of doom.

b)     HELPFUL ATTITUDES

Let’s list constructive attitudes that help make you a more productive person.

1.     The service attitude.
2.     Doing what needs to be done.
One of the most unproductive ideas you can have, is to consider that some things, which need to be done, are beneath you.
3.     The second mile attitude.
If you not only do what you are asked, but do what else needs to be done, your services will be desired.
People who do only what they get paid for, usually get paid only what they do.
4.     Expecting little reward.
Not everything you do in life will result in acclaim.
Often the most worthwhile things you accomplish, go unnoticed.
5.     Pride in your work.
Doing a poor job when you are capable of better one, is a disservice to your company – but the greatest disservice is to yourself.
To be productive you need to have pride in your work below that of which you are capable.
6.     Believing in yourself.
You need to believe in yourself for two reasons:
_         First, it will give you the courage to tackle things others turn down, or those they say can’t be done.
It will help you face new assignments and new challenges with confidence.
_         Second, it will inspire confidence in those whom you lead. No one follows a man who lacks confidence in himself.
